Frequently Asked Questions about PVC recycling

Here are some FAQ’s about PVC recycling and other topics that may be useful for you.

Plastic recycling code 3 is PVC
PVC is widely used in many industries. It is durable and can be recycled many times.

Q: Is PVC recycling really possible?

A: The short answer – “YES”!  Thanks to its chemical structure, PVC is well suited to mechanical recycling and can be recycled up to 8 times.  When you consider that a PVC product such as a drain pipe can have a working life of 50 years or more and then multiply that by 8, you can see we have a valuable resource in PVC.  On top of that, the CO2 emissions to manufacture PVC are more than 5 times the emissions needed to recycle PVC.

Q: Where can I find more facts about PVC and PVC recycling?

A: The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has a lot of good information.  Click here to find out about PVC but look around their site to find other useful resources.  VinylPlus® is the European PVC industry’s commitment to sustainable development, working to improve the sustainability performance of PVC.  Their website has links to a number of studies on PVC.

Q: I’m trying to find your site.  Where are you?

Q: Why did you call yourselves PVC Pellets when you sell regrind and do not produce pellets?

A: We really would like to produce PVC pellets and have already invested in a new shed to house an extrusion machine.  With support from Invest to Grow we have completed pilot trials with an older extruder and gained experience so we know the steps we need to take to create a clean sample and the additives needed.  In the meantime, we continue to invest and grow our business by supplying recycled PVC as a flake to an ever growing customer base.  Click here to find out more.

Operation Clean Sweep certificate for PVC Pellets Ltd

Q: What is Operation Clean Sweep about?

A: Waste plastics contaminating our oceans and countryside never seems to be out of the news.  As a responsible recycler of plastic, PVC Pellets is helping to ensure end of life plastic is reused.  But that’s not enough!  We are also determined to make sure the recycled flake we produce is not lost.  Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) was launched in 1991 as a campaign dedicated to helping every plastic resin handling operation achieve zero plastic resin loss.  OCS is international – more than 60 countries around the world participate!  PVC Pellets is proud to participate in Operation Clean Sweep.
